RoboSub

Mixing water and electronics is just the beginning. But don’t take our word for it, take the plunge yourself!

The Competition

Submerged. Software. Circuits.

Once you assemble your RoboSub team, your mission is to design your sub, or Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and get it to demonstrate its autonomy by completing a series of tasks.

Over-prepare to go underwater.

The competition kicks off with guide markers to help direct AUVs to begin performing. Acoustic beacons (pingers) require more advanced technology to guide the AUV to other tasks. Along the way, AUVs can pick up objects to be used in other locations. Advanced vehicles may also attempt to identify and touch buoys, drop markers, manipulate or deploy projectiles and move/release objects before surfacing.

Make friends and award-winning submarines.

No surprise here, the team that gets the most points wins. But bragging rights and prize money aside, along the way you’ll be bonding with your teammates, striking up friendly rivalries and joining a community that is just as AUV-obsessed as you are. So read the rules, join the conversation, and set sail for your future.

Don’t take our word for it. Take theirs.

Sponsor

“We love the opportunity to sponsor RoboNation. One of our main objectives attending RobotX and RoboSub was to recruit. These are the exact type of students that we want to come to work at Blue Origin – for internships or full time jobs.”

2019 RoboSub Team

“The community aspect of RoboSub is incredible. Teams are collaborative and as a first year team we felt incredibly supported by the other participants. I’ve never been part of a collegiate competition with such a strong community.”

Sponsor

“Sub was the first competition we ever attended as a sponsor – back in 2015 we were just a little fledgling company! We were (and still are!) so stoked to walk around and chat with all of the students, learn about their vehicles, and see how the thrusters and other parts were being integrated into each team’s vehicle.”
